Why have a sewer line inspection?

Reasons to have a sewer video inspection

  • To find out the exact place of a clog or issue in order to limit the amount of digging to fix a problem
  • Before purchasing a new home or property—understanding costly sewer issues before buying property can save you thousands of dollars
  • If your sewer line backs up twice within a two-year period—using video inspection equipment can determine whether you have a bigger problem that needs to be addressed
  • Before investing in a new rug or flooring in your basement

How sewer line video works

Video inspection involves inserting a tiny camera into your sewer line or drain. The camera is on the end of a long cable, just like the snake, so we’re able to run it down the line to find the problem.
We use video inspection equipment capable of searching up to 400 feet of line, working inside diameters as large as 10 inches and as small as 2 inches. The camera has a transmitter that sends a signal to a locator used above ground. This allows us to determine where the line is going as well as to pinpoint the exact location and depth of a problem area.

Digital record of inspection

When we use video inspection on a sewer line, we record what we see and can produce a digital USB copy of the procedure. This allows you to see the problem for yourself, and it allows us to provide an accurate, free estimate for your repair. In addition to keeping a digital USB copy of the inspection, you will also receive a report detailing potential problems, their severity and exact location.

Excavation and repair

Because we offer a full-service sewer and drain cleaning specialist, we can do all the necessary excavation and repairs to get your sewer or drains up and running. We may suggest a discounted preventive maintenance program to keep the line running. If the problem is more serious, we can excavate and repair or replace the line for you.

Reading your article makes me realize how important it is to have a sewer line inspection. You've mentioned that this is to find out where the issue is and to help the workers set the digging limit. My sister's sewer system has been clogged due to poor maintenance. I recommend her to have a sewer inspection and repair to resolve the issue right away.

Bree,

Thank you for your comments. I agree with you that it is very important to have you sewer line scoped. It is recommended to have it checked every 1-3 years, depending on the results of the original scope. It’s another routine maintenance that should be done to insure the safety and longevity of the line. In many states it is required by law to have one done prior to a purchase. It currently is not required in Minnesota, but we definitely recommend it. The cost and hassle can be very high and it is better to know what you’re getting into, or if you already own your home to hopefully catch it before it becomes a larger problem. We also want to make sure, as you had commented, that the clients are informed of the proper area and actual fix that needs to be performed. Please let me know if we can be of any help and thank you again for reaching out.

It's good to know that video inspection of your serer system involves inserting a small camera into your sewer line or drain. My wife and I have been noticing that our shower isn't draining the way that it should, and we want to make sure that everything is okay with our sewer system. We'll be sure to look further into our options for having our sewer systems inspected in the future.

I appreciated it when you shared that video inspection is done in order to find out the exact place of a clog in your drain that needs to be dug. My aunt just mentioned the other day that she is concerned about her sewer line since it has not been working well lately and she suspected that it is being clogged. I will suggest to her looking for a reliable service that can offer to do a video inspection.

I like that you talked about using a video camera that would be used to look into the sewer line to inspect them. I think I would need this service to know if we already need a sewer line repair for our home. What we have noticed these past two days is that the drainages around the house have water backing up a little, so there might be broken or clogged areas that need to be fixed by professionals.

Inspections may be completed swiftly and affordably. However, because they are the result of normal wear and tear, sewage line replacements may be highly expensive and are frequently not covered by insurance. Sewage backups can cost money, but they can also be unpleasant and dangerous, leading to floods and the release of poisonous sewer gas. A issue may frequently be found during an examination before it results in permanent harm. Replacement is frequently necessary in the long run when minor leaks and blockages continue unrepaired.

I agree. If you want to ensure the lifespan of your sewer line, then inspections are the key. Regular inspections, along with maintenance, can help to avoid an untimely sewer line replacement, by keeping your sewer line in good repair and avoiding severe damage by catching small issues before they become big ones.

It's interesting to know that issues can be discovered and identified using a long cable with a video camera at the end. I think that is the kind of service we need right now to see if we already need a sewer line repair service. It's because the property that I moved into is from my grandparents, so its parts and components might be too old by now and need attention.

Thank you for explaining that full-service sewer involves excavation and repairs if necessary. My friend told me that their sewer line is due for a cleaning. I should advise her to hire a sewer line cleaning contractor with vast experience in the field.

Thanks for pointing out that knowing about pricey sewer issues before buying property might save you thousands of dollars when looking to buy a new home or piece of land. My mother desires to purchase a new home. I'll advise her to hire a drainage repair company to examine the drainage before purchasing a home.

This post made an excellent point that one of the benefits of scheduling a pipe inspection is that we can determine if we require drain cleaning services. It makes sense as that way, we will have an idea of the severity of the pipes. I will definitely keep this information in mind when I look to have our drains cleaned.

Thank you for explaining how there's a digital record of the inspection so that you can see what they saw. I've been wondering about this since we're having a plumber over to help with our home soon. It's good to know that they'll be able to show us what has gone wrong with our sewer line.

Recently, my brother mentioned something's blocking his plumbing system since his drains keep getting clogged, no matter what he does. That's why I think he'd get a sewer line inspection as soon as possible to see what's the issue before it gets worse, so I'll text him now to suggest it. Thanks for the information on sewer line inspection and how they use video technology to identify the in-ground issue.
